Private number plates. The term private number plates is generally regarded as the most popular way in which recognisable car registrations are described. Almost everyone refers to them as private number plates. Any number plate can be deemed to be a private plate if it has some relevance to the owners name or initials, or even the car that it is displayed on. Names and initials tend to be the most popular combinations although it's still common to see JAG, BMW and 911 being displayed on those cars.

DVLA registrations. DVLA Registrations are the most popular kind of private number plates for sale today as they are by far the most reasonably priced. However, they must be chosen carefully as they contain year indicators in them. For example, K8 GVX or GH55 GCW. This style of registration number cannot be used to make a vehicle appear newer than it actually is although they can be bought and kept on retention certificates for use at a later date. DVLA Registration numbers make excellent gifts for birthdays, Christmas and almost any occasion.

Cherished number plates. Before 1963, car registration numbers did not have any year identifier on them and as such they are usually referred to in the trade as cherished number plates. This style of personalised number plate is by far the most sought after as they have appreciated in value the most over the last 20 years. Cherished plates come in 2,3,4,5 or 6 character versions so there is a huge variety for sale. In contrast to DVLA registrations, however, they are usually the most expensive registrations for sale. Cherished number plates can also be bought at auction and we are always happy to advise on available registration numbers and prices.
